Everyone Loves the Squirrels of Poreč, Including the Poreč Firefighters

Every year, the Public Fire Department of Poreč provides invaluable support in maintaining water stations for birds, squirrels, and other small animals that share our oasis in the area of Hotel Galijot in Plava Laguna. Over time, the Squirrel Forest and Poreč squirrels have gained great popularity, attracting children and adult visitors from all parts of Istria and beyond.

While the horticulture staff of Laguna are busy repairing the damage from a recent storm that felled about a dozen trees at Galijot, the Poreč firefighters come to the rescue. The water stations need to be thoroughly cleaned and then filled with fresh water. Their dedication and kindness in maintaining the water stations, cleaning, and refilling with fresh water do not go unnoticed. Robert Bratović and Valentino Pršurić, members of the Public Fire Department of Poreč, have put their hands and hearts into ensuring fresh water for our little friends in the Squirrel Forest.

Caring for the water stations is a demanding task, especially during the hot summer months. The water must be frequently replenished as it evaporates in the sun and often attracts seagulls that gather around the stations. This is not just a duty but an act of love towards the animals that depend on a sustainable water supply.

Behind this incredible collaborative effort lies an awareness of the importance of protecting and preserving the wildlife around us. The Poreč squirrels have become popular not only among visitors and tourists but also as a symbol of cooperation, joint effort, and genuine love for nature.

Every time you walk past the Squirrel Forest, every time you feed a squirrel or help maintain their habitat, you are participating in a larger story. It is a story of communal care, awareness of the importance of coexisting with all creatures, and it inspires us to be better people and guardians of the wild world.

Therefore, with deep gratitude, we salute the firefighters of Poreč who extended their helping hand to the small animals. The residents of the Squirrel Forest are immensely grateful to them.
